Blacksmith I is single semester class.
Please refer to the syllabus for important information for a project list, safety and clothing requirements.
Basic hands on skills and history of the trade will be covered in Blacksmith I. Students will learn from the very beginning so as to establish a strong understanding of the process, safety and equipment use. Only then will they then move on to more difficult work and we will determine appropriate individual projects. Safety, materials, skills, design, tools and a potential field trip.
Due to the nature of Blacksmithing, students that do not respect safety or teacher instructions or who intentionally put others in harms way will be expelled from the class.
Classes will be held on Tues at 2:15 - 3:45 starting Jan 23, 2018 through May 15, 2018 rain or shine in the Smithy at the Farm except for the following dates:
Spring Break 4/2 - 4/6/18.
Student will also be expected to attend and participate in the Student Demo / Public Open House on Wed May 23 from 10-3 (parental supervision required). There will be a dinner for the participants held Thurs May 24 from 3-5.
